As a big fan of Champions of Norrath and Baldur’s Gate: Dark Alliance, we can be pleased to hear that Snowblind Studios together with Middle-Earth Enterprises are developing The Lord of the Rings: War in the North to PS3, Xbox 360 and PC during 2011. The game is going to be visceral action RPG set in the backdrop of the trilogy, but still establishes its own path with a new story. So players can expect some exploring in previously untold realm of Middle-earth during the journey of the ring.
“The game features stunning visuals, brutally realistic combat, a unique and compelling new story, and innovative cooperative gameplay that pits you and your friends against the dark forces of Middle-earth.”
If the game is anything like Dark Alliance or Norrath, I can’t wait it to be released. Baldur’s Gate: Dark Alliance was a one addictive game I’ve spent numerous hours with my friends. The possibility to do it again just makes my tummy tingle…

Monkey Island 1 & 2 to PS3
As a huge fan of the Monkey Island series, I was pleased to hear that LucasArts has confirmed that Monkey Island – Special Edition and no other than Monkey Island 2: LeChuck’s Revenge Special Edition are now officially coming to PS3!
LucasArts has confirmed that The Secret of Monkey Island 2: LeChuck’s Revenge is coming to PC, PlayStation Network, Xbox Live Arcade and iPhone this summer. While the PS3 fans have been already patiently waiting for The Secret of Monkey Island: Special Edition – they still need to wait another “few weeks”.
If somebody doens’t know Monkey Island introduces us to Guybrush Threepwood, an ambitious young fellow newly arrived on Melee Island to seek his fortune as a pirate. Special Editions include high-definition graphics, remastered sound, hint system and directly controlled Guybrush will deliver a new Monkey Island experience that will give a laugh for two for guy holding the controller. One nice addition is the ability to switch between original and revamped presentations.
According the reviews Secret of Monkey Island: Special Edition proved that the old LucasArts adventure remains as awesome today as it was years ago at release.
This is PlayStation Move
Sony has now officially revealed the name for its motion controller coming next fall. The product was introduced at Game Developers Conference just recently so no more talk about Playstation Arc of Gem since now it is time to say hello to the officially named Playstation Move. The product itself will come in three forms: Bundled with PS3, with PlayStation Eye or alone.
“Previous motion devices have used controller simply as pointer of mouse — ours becomes an extension of your body.” says Sony’s Peter Dille about the Move. It will be interesting to see how the controller actually responds to the above, but the video below demonstrates some of the abilities the controller offers. According to Sony, there are 36 studios and publishers developing games already to the new controller.
According to Sony, we can already expect about 20 games some made especially for the controller, some not. These titles include i.e Tiger Woods PGA Tour 11, Ape Escape, Echochrome 2 and there is support for older games such as LittleBigPlanet, Flower, Resident Evil 5. As expected, some of the games will include family party games such as Move Party or Sports Champions.
The controller itself looks a bit like Wii’s but the feeling is more Sony-like though I don’t know what to feel about the small globe at the end of the controller. It’s not a bad thing considering they’ll most likely fit your hand like a glove. Anyway, according to the video below, the controllers seem to be working quite well with the games. Now we just have to wait for the actual release…
Obsidian Entertainment to Develop Wheel of Time RPG
I was pleasantly surprised to hear that Red Eagle Games has formed a partnership with Obsidian Entertaiment with the intention of producing some rpgs for different platforms such as PS3, Xbox 360 and of course PC. The great thing is that such rpg is based on Robert Jordan’s Wheel of Time series. If Obsidian Entertaiment sounds familiar, it is because it is known for developing games such as KOTOR2, and Neverwinter Nights 2 and Baldur’s Gate (when some designers were at Black Isle back then.) While the platforms have been decided there has been no information about dates or more specific information for now.
Red Eagle Games was launched in 2008 by film company Red Eagle Entertainment for the express purpose of making WoT into video games. Last year, EA signed on as the distributor for these games. “Games set in Robert Jordan’s universe have the chance to deliver on the epic storylines and the complex characters that the series is known for – and this is one of Obsidian’s strengths,” -Chris Avellone, Obsidian chief creative officer-
When I read the first book, I was so determined that this was one of the best fantasy series ever made. It still is in my top 5 after all. To hear that there is going to be a Wheel of Time RPG and one of the platforms is none other than my favorite PS3, it is good news indeed!
Enough said, I’m pretty excited. I’m pleased to see that WoT series still has some strength in it. The world of WoT is indeed rich enough to fit in numerous games. However, I don’t know what to expect since WoT relies a lot on its interesting characters… It is easy to pick favorites according your taste. I’m anxious to see what role will the player take? Who is he/she? Maybe we will see something new that has only been covered at some parts in the series, who knows!!
Now I just have to read The Gathering Storm…
